“West End as a Classroom” will be back for a fourth year and begins this summer.
The program allows students and teachers to visit the Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance, the Museum of Dallas County History and Culture and The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in a single, off-campus trip at a discounted rate of $11 per person. This fall, the program will expand to 30 dates. The program launched in 2008 with three dates.
The collaborative effort of the three museums focuses on the common theme of leadership and is a TEKS aligned program. Student and teacher resource materials are available. Students will use primary and secondary resources at all three museums to explore lessons and attitudes about leadership while using the West End as a classroom. Covering the 19th century to the present day, students examine local, national, and international leaders to define the special characteristics that make a leader.
