Butterfly fans take off at CityArts Festival

Butterflies have long been associated with the Holocaust as a symbol of hope for the future, so they were the perfect theme for a children’s craft activity hosted by the Museum at the annual CityArts Festival May 9th and 10th at Dallas’ Fair Park.

Hundreds of children - both young and old - crowded around the Museum’s booth, eager to create a butterfly fan, which they customized with markers, glitter glue and 3-D decorations. Although festival officials said they saw a downturn in attendance in this, their first year in their new Fair Park location, the Museum tables were crowded with families, toddlers and teens, all eager to make a fan.

Many thanks to volunteers Kate Gaddis, Ilan Attar, Pam Barnes and Laura Beth Levy, who joined Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Hylton Jonas and his wife, Veronique, and Museum President and CEO, Alice Murray in helping the children make their fans and talking to parents about the mission of the Museum.
