Tolerance/Holocaust/Genocide Education in Grades K - 5
May 17th, 2011
Location: Region XI ESC, 3001 North Freeway, Ft. worth, Texas
8:30 a.m.—3:30 p.m.
This workshop will give the necessary historic background for and discuss a new curriculum that has been created to encourage tolerance, the acceptance of differences, and respect for all people. These activities and materials have been chosen to help the students in grades K—5 be enriched by their pluralistic community instead of feeling threatened by them or prejudiced toward them. This unit will help K- 5 students avoid behaviors that apply to the Eight Stages of Genocide.

The primary grades focus on tolerance, while grade 5 (and possibly grade 4) may address some appropriate themes of the Holocaust and more modern genocides. Resource materials and lunch will be provided. Up to 6 CPE’s and GT credit can be earned by attendees. This workshop is sponsored and paid for by the Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission, and will be presented by Kathy Chapman, from the Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance. The workshop is free, but you must be registered by emailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Registration is limited and on a first come basis.
