“West End as a Classroom” will be back for a third year this Fall by popular demand.
The program allows students and teachers to visit the Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance, the Museum of Dallas County History and Culture and The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in a single, off-campus trip at a discounted rate. This fall, the program will expand to 16 days—significantly longer than the three-day program that launched in 2008.
The collaborative effort of the three museums focuses on the common theme of leadership. The museums provide teacher training on the application of the leadership theme to curricula as well as the use of primary and secondary resources at all three museums to explore lessons and attitudes about leadership. Covering the 19th century to the present day, students examine local, national, and international leaders to define the special characteristics that make a leader.
The three museums will host a Teacher’s Open House on August 3rd from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Teacher seminars will also be presented Thursday, June 17, from 9 am to 3:30 pm and Thursday, July 22, from 9 am to 3:30 pm.
